Sports Psychology – What can it do for me?
Sports psychology can enable you to
become much stronger in the control and delivery of mental skills. These mental skills are often described by
successful athletes as being the difference between first and second or winning and losing. Compare 2 equally
talented sports people and every time the winner will be the mentally stronger athlete. However, these athletes are
not born with all this mental strength but they identify their weaknesses and work on them consistently either with
a sports psychologist or on their own after understanding what they are and interventions that can be implemented
to enhance them. Consider the athlete who doesn’t work on his training regimes or diet or fitness levels, will they
stay at the top of their game? I do not think so. If this is the case then why would you not work on your mind
after all it is the central computer that drives everything about us. Sports psychology has been scientifically
proven and it is from this science that we take our knowledge and help sporting people to understand what is not as
strong mentally as it could be and how to improve on them.
Business Psychology – What can it do for me?
Let us consider the relationship between a sporting person and
a business person. Both earn their rewards and day to day living from it; both look to be better than the next
person; both continually train in relevant areas; both seek outstanding performance and achievement and so on. Why
then would we use all the science in the sporting arena and not bring it into the business arena. This is what
business psychology is, it is the identification of weak areas in the performance of an
organisation’s major assets, its people, and we are concerned with how the individual thinks, acts, behaves and
feels as this will ultimately be seen through their performance. There is evidence being seen now that the
development of mental skills through a business psychology approach is generating excellent returns for the
organisation and rewards for the individual. This has to be seen as a win-win situation and the next step in
corporate development.
Peak Performance – What is it?
It is the result of professional dedication and in sporting or
business sectors it is the ultimate performance or achievement. It is the outcome that is desired; the feeling of
total control; the taking of the right decisions at the right time and the skill and strength needed to prevail.
Peak performance is not perfection as this state is not always needed. It is the ability to have
just enough to win or achieve the sale. Peak performance will flow from mental calm and determination, physical
excellence, the correct strategy and the correct amount and type of training. The jigsaw comes together at the
right time not too soon and not too late and you feel it as it is happening. Your performance is effortless and
passes in a daze as your systems are flowing on automatic pilot. I can help you enter this state to achieve
peak performance.
